  Getting there:

  Wuzhen is located in the north of Zhejiang Province; expressway can easily lead to the town from Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, with a distance of 120, 80 and 89 kilometers respectively. If you arrive in Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou or Guangzhou, you can get to Wuzhen by bus after taking either domestic flight or train.

  Free shuttle buses from airport to Wuzhen are provided during the meeting, but you have to change buses during service time to come to the town.

  Wuzhen Traffic Map:

  Language: Chinese. English is the working language. Receptionists can speak English.

  Time: Beijing Time, 8 hours ahead of GMT (GMT+8hrs)

  Currency: Reminbi(RMB). Face value of Chinese bank notes includes 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 yuan. (5 jiao is half a yuan; 1 jiao is a tenth of a yuan)

  Climate: Wuzhen has a humid subtropical climate with four distinctive seasons, characterized by hot summers and cold winters. Average annual temperature is 15.8°C. Lowest temperature appears in January, at 3.3°C, and the highest in June, at 28.2°C. The town is influenced by East Asia’s plum rain season in June, as well as typhoon in August and September. Weather condition in November is very pleasant thanks to the cool breeze and fresh air.

  Mobile phones: Mobile phones are commonly used in Wuzhen, with the major carriers being China Mobile and China Unicom. Two systems are used for mobile phones, GSM (900MHZ) and CDMA. Your mobile will be working if it belongs to one of the two systems above, and have turned on the roaming service.

  What to wear:

  Wuzhen enjoys four distinctive seasons, with spring and autumn being the most comfortable. In spring and autumn, you can simply take several light jerseys and an overcoat. In summer, sunscreen, parasols and hats are recommended while your clothes should be breathable and light. In November, however, you’d better have several fall clothes prepared as morning and evening could be cold, and the weather condition could be dry. If you choose to come in winter, take a thick overcoat— or even down jacket— to keep yourself warm.

  Considering the condition of stone roads in the scenic zone, low-heel or flat shoes will bring you a better walking experience.

  Credit cards and currency exchange:

  Tourists can pay with China UnionPay cards at consumption sites with POS machines.

  Bank service is provided at Tourist Service Center, Tong'an Hotel, Waterside Resort and Splendid Clubhouse, where visitors can exchange RMB with US dollar, Euro, HK dollar and JPY.

  ATMs are also available at the bank service sites.

  Telephones:

  All fixed-line telephone can make domestic calls, and can provide international-calling service, with the main carrier being China Telecom.

  Country code for China is 86 and the city code is 573. If you are calling from outside of China, please dial 86, then 573, before dialing your intended number. For example, to call the Reservation Center of Wuzhen Scenic Zone, you need to dial 0086 573 88731088. If you are calling abroad from Wuzhen, dial 00, then country code, area code after that, and finally, your intended number.

  Business hours:

  Wuzhen Scenic Zone is open all day, but exhibitions, workshops and performances generally open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Opening hours can be adjusted in winter and summer.

  Supermarkets usually open at 8:00 AM and close at 9:30 PM. There are 24-hour convenient stores around the town.

  Network:

  10000M fiber-optic is provided in the West Scenic Zone. You can have free access to wired network and WIFI from your hotel rooms. Many places in Wuzhen Scenic Zone also provide wireless AP service via which you can access internet with your laptop.

  Drinking water:

  Drinking water in Wuzhen mainly comes from tap water. In some areas of the West Scenic Zone (such as drinking-water spots and some hotel rooms), direct drinkable water is provided. If not in these areas, you have to boil the water before drinking (electrical boilers are available at hotel rooms).

  Electricity:

  Electricity in Wuzhen is at 220V, 50hz. If your plugs or sockets do not apply to the voltage, a plug converter or a voltage converter could be useful.

  Medical treatment:

  There are several emergency medical treatment spots in the scenic zone. Hotels and other guest houses in Wuzhen mostly keep in touch with hospitals nearby, so they can help you call a doctor if necessary. Staff at the hotels can also help or guide tourists to emergency medical treatment centers or hospitals. If you have purchased medical insurance, please bring the necessary documents with you.

  Pharmacies:

  Non-prescription drugs can be directly bought at the pharmacies. Related prescriptions are needed if you want to buy prescription drugs. The business hours of drugstores are usually the same as stores, with one exception Hengyitang Drugstore, which opens 24 hours a day. If you are in a treatment course, make sure to bring your medicine with you.

  Postal service:

  The postal service in Wuzhen is run by China Post. Here you can send and receive letters and packages to and from places all over the world. In West Scenic Zone, you can find an old post office with a history of over a hundred years— this is not only a historic site, tourists can also enjoy routine postal services here, like sending letters, packages and postcard, as well as collecting commemorative postmarks.

  Safety:

  Wuzhen enjoys a good social order, and crime rarely happens here. The local people live and work in peace and contentment and lead a wealthy life. Also, they are friendly to visitors. There are police offices, electronic patrolling systems are also installed in the scenic zone. There is absolutely no need for tourists to worry about safety.

  However, mind the waters in Wuzhen. Most of buildings are built by the river. Tourists need to watch your steps during your stay, especially at night, to avoid falling into the water.

  Non-smoking sections:

  Smoking is prohibited in many places in Wuzhen Scenic Zone, as most of buildings there are made of wood. The majority of indoor public areas and vehicles all prohibit smoking. Hotels provide special suits for non-smokers, and restaurants usually have smoking areas. However, tourists are not supposed to drop cigarette butts around to avoid fire even in smoking sections.

  Getting around:

  Rickshaws and taxis are the major vehicles in town. In the scenic zone, you can walk or ride man-powered boats to get around. There are public boats and sight-seeing buses for tourists in the West Scenic Zone, while man-powered boats are also there for rent.
